About Us

Welcome to our website. We are brothers and our surname is Hector, thus the H. All of us have always been keen gardeners, and always took an interest in
horticulture. As far as our memory takes us, our Dad has had this passion for seeds, plants and
propagation, always potting around in the yard with his dirty hands, clean with well-composted soil! He
in turn learnt much from his late Dad, Alec Hector, who as standard practice planted 1000 Australian
Brown onions each June school holidays, grew Lazy Housewife beans that would make Jack (of Jack and
the Beanstalk!), green with envy, and there were the Green Peppers, Tomatoes, Cabbage, Cauliflower,
and his top favourite, beetroot. He was also a member of the Stellenbosch Horticultural Society,
specializing in Crysanthemums, where he won many prizes. Below is a photo of him and our grandma at
one such occasion.

In respect of our Dad, it was Chillies, Fuchsias, Hydrangeas, Margarete Daisies, Strawberries, Clivias,
Lavendar, Gazanias, a wide range of herbs and veggies, cluttering up his backyard. He occasionally went
to the flea markets, but his greatest pleasure was to give produce away at cut-prices, to spread the good
passion of gardening and horticulture.
And so, with this wealth of intellectual knowledge and practical experience, and all being avid readers,
we sat down in our lounge and agreed that all this experience, passion, and knowledge should not go
lost, and agreed in 2020 to start a small business called H3 Nurseries, specializing in supplying
horticultural products to the retail trade. Currently our produce is grown in various locations, (real
intensive farming!), but shortly we hope to explore the dream of owning our own small-holding, building
our business into an asset of value. (with acknowledgement to Pavlo Phitides, author of the book
